West Indies to Kickstart New Test Cycle Under New Captain
Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced Kraigg Brathwaite's decision to step down as Test captain, effective immediately. Brathwaite had indicated his intention to step down after the Pakistan tour this year, with three months left for his side's next assignment against Australia.
Brathwaite will lead West Indies in his 100th Test, having won ten games in 39 Tests under his tenure. He led the team to historic wins, including beating England at home in 2022 and securing a thrilling win on Australian soil for the first time in 27 years.
A new Test captain will be named in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Shai Hope has been appointed as the new ODI skipper, following advice from Head Coach Daren Sammy.
"Kraigg Brathwaite has been an outstanding leader for our Test team, guiding the squad with discipline, resilience, and a deep understanding of the game," said Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe. "Shai Hope's appointment signals a progressive shift for West Indies cricket, given his success with the 50 over team in the last 18 months."
