New Zealand sets Pakistan a daunting target of 345 in first ODI

Mark Chapman's career-best 132 and a blistering 52 from debutant Muhammad Abbas helped New Zealand post a massive 344/9 in 50 overs against Pakistan in the first ODI in Napier.

Chapman's patient knock of 132 came off 103 balls, while Daryl Mitchell chipped in with 76. The duo's 198-run stand was the backbone of New Zealand's innings. Mitchell's 76 came off 84 balls, with a strike rate of under 100.

Muhammad Abbas, playing his first ODI, smashed 52 off just 26 balls, hitting 3 fours and 3 sixes to take New Zealand past 340.

Pakistan's bowling effort was hampered by the absence of a specialist spinner, with their fifth-bowling option conceding 118 runs in 10 overs. The visitors also conceded 43 extras, making their task even more daunting.
