Najmul Hossain Shanto Advocates for Player Participation in T20 Leagues
Najmul Hossain Shanto, front-runner for Test and ODI squad leader, believes the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) should allow cricketers to participate in foreign franchise-based T20 tournaments. This stance comes after his captaincy tenure ended following Bangladesh's poor run in the recently concluded Champions Trophy.
Player Participation in PSL Raises Concerns
The debate over national commitments versus franchise cricket is resurfacing in Bangladesh's cricketing community. Several players picked by different franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are expected to feature in the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe at home.
Players Torn Between Franchise and National Duty
Fast bowler Nahid Rana was drafted by Peshawar Zalmi, while Litton Kumar Das and Rishad Hossain were signed by Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalandars, respectively. However, the participation of Rana and Litton remains uncertain due to the fixture clash between the PSL and the Test series.
BCB Officials Weigh In
A BCB official confirmed that Rana had already sent a letter to the board to participate in the PSL, while expecting letters from the other two cricketers soon. The official stated that the BCB will make a decision after the players apply for a no-objection certificate (NOC).
Najmul's Stance on Franchise Cricket
Najmul emphasized that sharing the dressing room with international players will provide invaluable experience for the cricketers. He believes that playing in foreign franchise leagues will help them gain valuable experience and teach them to take responsibility.
BCB's Selective Approach to NOCs
BCB officials announced that they will be more selective in giving NOCs to national team players, prioritizing a qualitative assessment to ensure players don't compete in questionable leagues.
