Afghanistan's Zadran Powers Them to 325 Against England
Ibrahim Zadran scored a sensational 177, the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history, as Afghanistan posted a strong 325 against England at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Zadran's innings included 12 fours and six sixes, surpassing his previous highest score of 162 against Sri Lanka. He shared a crucial partnership with captain Hashmatullah Shahidi, who scored 40, to rebuild the innings after being reduced to 37 for 3 early on.
The acceleration began when Zadran took down Jamie Overton for 16 runs, including a six, and he went on to score his century off 106 balls. Azmatullah Omarzai added 41 off 31 balls, including a six, to keep the scoring rate high.
In the final 10 overs, Afghanistan plundered 113 runs, with Zadran and Mohammad Nabi scoring freely against a faltering England attack. The total of 325 will give Afghanistan's spin attack a substantial target to defend.
