DC's Best Yet to Come
Meg Lanning's recent form has raised questions about her technical deficiencies, with the Delhi Capitals opener being dismissed by incoming deliveries for the third time in five games this season. Despite her struggles, teammate Jess Jonnasen remains unconcerned, citing Lanning's world-class abilities and hard work in training.
Lanning's Lack of Contributions
Lanning's scratchy campaign in the WPL has been a concern, with her not being able to dictate terms against inexperienced pacers. Her dismissal against Kranti Goud and Kashvee Gautam in the last two games is hard to ignore. However, Jonnasen believes that Lanning's form is not a concern, and that she is one of the hardest working players in the team.
Shafali Verma's Dominance
Shafali Verma, on the other hand, has been able to dictate terms against Giants, nullifying Deandra Dottin's bouncer and Ash Gardner's offbreaks. Her 32-ball 61-run assault, backed up by Jonnasen's unbeaten 44, proved enough for DC to cruise to a comfortable win.
DC's Middle Order Woes
Shafali has failed to make her starts count, and the middle order hasn't fully turned up, barring a couple of knocks from Jemimah Rodrigues. DC attempted a slight shake-up to their line-up against Giants, promoting Jonnasen to No.3, which proved handy.
Jonnasen's Promotion
Jonnasen explained that the move was to inject some firepower and intent into the powerplay, and she was pleased to have been able to come through with a performance like that. It remains to be seen for how long DC continue with this plan.
DC's Strength in Depth
Despite not having their peak levels, DC's strength in depth has allowed them to secure three victories in five games. The positive aspect of their campaign has been that almost every player has played her part, stood up at different times, and made an impact.
