Henry, Harris headline Warriorz's first win
UP Warriorz picked up their first points of WPL 2025 with a 33-run win over Delhi Capitals, becoming the first team to win a game defending a score this season. Chinelle Henry scored 62 off 23 balls, equaling the joint-fastest 50 in the competition's history off just 18 balls, while Grace Harris took a hattrick to close out the game. Harris and Kranti Goud both took four wickets.
UPW got off to a brisk start with Vrinda Dinesh hitting a four before Marizanne Kapp bowled five wides. Kiran Navgire, who scored a half-century in the previous game, took charge immediately, smashing a shot over mid-on. Minnu Mani dropped Navgire on 7.
Vrinda Dinesh was dismissed, caught behind by Sarah Bryce. Deepti Sharma took 10 balls to get off the mark. Navgire was dropped again but was later caught by Niki Prasad off Arundhati Reddy.
The Capitals piled pressure on UPW, taking four wickets in five overs. Deepti Sharma was dismissed by Prasad, Shweta Sehrawat was bowled by Reddy, Kapp dismissed Grace Harris, and Chetry was caught behind by Bryce.
Henry came to the crease and powered Reddy for two sixes, taking UPW past 100 in the 15th over. She was dropped on 13 by Kapp and made the Capitals pay, smashing 24 runs off Shikha Pandey in the 17th over with Sophie Ecclestone. Henry brought up her fifty by hitting three sixes off Reddy. She was dismissed on the last ball of the innings.
Delhi Capitals started poorly in the field, dropping Shafali Varma on 0 by Saima Thakor. Varma hit two boundaries before being dropped again. Goud dismissed Meg Lanning for 5. More fielding errors followed, with Chetry missing a stumping chance and Rodrigues being dropped by Deepti.
UPW finally held onto a catch when Varma was caught at cover-point. Rodrigues chipped Deepti for two fours as the Capitals tried to regain momentum. Rodrigues hit a six off Henry before being dropped at point. Henry dismissed Kapp, caught by Ecclestone.
Wickets fell regularly for the Capitals despite Rodrigues' consistent boundary hitting. Sutherland was caught, Jonassen was caught by Goud off her own bowling, and Rodrigues was dismissed by Goud. Nikki Prasad hit 19 runs off Henry but Harris took a hat-trick to bowl them out.
