Delhi Capitals' Head Coach Jonathan Batty Reflects on Loss to Royal Challengers
Jonathan Batty, head coach of Delhi Capitals, expressed disappointment with his team's performance in their second consecutive loss of the season. Despite a strong start courtesy Jemimah Rodrigues's aggressive batting, Delhi Capitals were bundled out for 141, a total that was chased down with 22 balls to spare by Royal Challengers.
Batty attributed the team's inability to stitch big partnerships as a major factor in their loss. He praised Jemimah's batting, who scored a 22-ball 34 before getting stumped while attempting a reverse sweep against Georgia Wareham. "I think Jemimah, over the last 12 months, made a really big shift in how positive she played and she was absolutely fantastic for us last year," Batty said.
The coach also acknowledged that the team's batting performance was below-par, with most batters getting reasonable starts but failing to kick on. "We probably needed another 50 or 60-run partnership somewhere within our batting unit to have got up to. I'm guessing probably 170 might have been a more realistic score to have even challenged and probably closer to 180 would have been probably par," Batty said.
Batty also praised the bowlers of Royal Challengers, who executed their skills well throughout the game. "I thought they (RCB bowlers) were on the money particularly early on. I thought they were well managed by the captain out there as well and they never really let us sort of get away from them even though we sort of threatened a couple of times towards the end of the power play," he said.
The coach also hinted that the wickets may not be as fresh as they were in the opening game, which could affect the outcome of future matches. "Obviously the wickets were fresh when we started. This was the second time this one was used. We moved I think to a fresh wicket again for the next couple of games based here," Batty said.
