Mohammad Nabi Aims to Play ODI Cricket with 18-Year-Old Son Eishakhil

Mohammad Nabi, the veteran Afghan cricketer, has decided to reverse his decision to retire from ODI cricket. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) had earlier confirmed that Nabi would retire from the 50-over format after the Champions Trophy. However, Nabi has now expressed his desire to continue playing ODIs, with the goal of representing Afghanistan alongside his 18-year-old son Hassan Eisakhil.

Nabi's son, Eisakhil, represented Afghanistan at the Under-19 World Cup in 2024 as an opener, but managed to score only 43 runs in four matches. Nabi has been quoted as saying that he wants to continue playing ODIs, but at a reduced frequency, to give younger players a chance to gain experience.

"It's my dream (to play together for the country) and hopefully we can do it. He is doing very well, he is a hard worker and I'm also pushing him to work," Nabi said.

Nabi has been a key player for Afghanistan, making his ODI debut against Scotland in 2009 and scoring a half-century on his debut. He has been praised for his exceptional performance in all departments of the game, and his remarkable fitness.

Afghanistan will start their Champions Trophy campaign against South Africa in Karachi on February 21, and later play England and Australia in Lahore on February 26 and 28 respectively.
