Chelsea owner Boehly acquires 49% of Trent Rockets
Todd Boehly, the primary owner of Chelsea football Club, has purchased a 49% stake in the Trent Rockets team of The Hundred. The American investor, who leads a consortium owning the West London English Premier League club, has bought the minority shares for £39 million.
Boehly won the bid over three to four competitors, including an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise. The identity of the other bidders remains undisclosed. Boehly leads the BlueCo consortium, which includes Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter, and Hansjorg Wyss.
With the Trent Rockets sale, seven of the eight franchises in the 100-ball league, run by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), have been sold. The Hampshire-based Southern Brave is the only remaining franchise for sale, expected to be available on Wednesday.
The GMR Group, co-owners of Delhi Capitals in the IPL, have already acquired Hampshire county and are likely to bid for the Southern Brave side. The new owner will acquire 100% of the franchise.
Trent Rockets have announced they will release details of the deal in a few days.
