Mitchell Marsh Out of Champions Trophy with Back Injury
Australia to Announce Squad Replacement
Australia will miss the services of Mitchell Marsh at the Champions Trophy 2025 due to a back injury. The 33-year-old hard-hitting all-rounder will be replaced in the squad by a new player, to be announced by the selection panel in the coming days.
Injury History and Recent Developments
Marsh has struggled with injuries throughout his career and recently complained of back trouble during the home Tests against India. He was managed through the series with reduced bowling loads but eventually lost his place to Beau Webster for the final game.
Decision to Withdraw from Tournament
The National Selection Panel (NSP) and Australian men's medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament due to the injury, which has not responded to rehabilitation. His lower back pain flared in recent weeks, leading the NSP to decide on a longer-term rehabilitation plan.
Impact on Team and Future Plans
With Pat Cummins also injured, there was a possibility of Marsh leading the ODI side in Pakistan and the UAE. However, that honour may now go to Steve Smith if Cummins misses out. Marsh faces another period of rehab and a race against time to be fully fit before the IPL 2025 season.
