Jasprit Bumrah named ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year
India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been named ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year 2024. He overcame competition from Joe Root, Travis Head, and Harry Brook. Bumrah is the fifth Indian to win the award after Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli.
Bumrah had a remarkable 2024, dominating Tests and T20Is, and contributing significantly to India's World Cup win. He was the Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup with 15 wickets at 8.26 and an economy of 4.17. His high-impact contributions included the league game against Pakistan and the final against South Africa.
In Tests, Bumrah took 71 wickets, 19 more than the next-best bowler. He surged to No.1 in the player rankings and breached the 900-point barrier. Bumrah also set a new benchmark by going past 200 wickets at a bowling average unmatched by anyone. He won the ICC Test Player of the Year for his exploits.
The first half of 2024 saw Bumrah excel in white-ball cricket, mainly T20Is, before dominating Tests. His performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia were pivotal to India's competitiveness despite flaws and concerns.
