BCB Suspends Constitutional Reform Committee Activities
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has suspended all activities of the constitutional reform committee following a 17th meeting of the BCB board of directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Background
The reform committee, headed by BCB director Nazmul Abedin, proposed significant changes to the BCB constitution, including the dissolution of the CCDM, reduction in Category-2 councilors, and decrease in directors representing Dhaka-based clubs.
Controversy and Boycott
Clubs threatened to boycott the proposed reforms, and four days later, they boycotted First Division domestic cricket, leaving the livelihood of several cricketers uncertain.
BCB Response
BCB director Mahbub Anam stated that the reform committee's activities need to be suspended due to a lack of transparency. He added that the board will announce the committee's scope of work before any changes and expansion decisions are executed.
Standing Committee and Interim Election
BCB announced the standing committee and hinted at the possibility of an interim election. Several posts are vacant in the Faruque Ahmed-led board, which took over following the departure of former BCB president Najmul Hasan.
Next Steps
BCB officials will discuss the vacant posts and take a decision in this regard. The legal team has been requested to work out how to proceed with the interim election.
