Confusion reigns as Rahane is recalled from the pavilion

Ajinkya Rahane was declared out, caught down the leg side by Jammu & Kashmir wicketkeeper Kanhaiya Wadhawan, only to be called back.

The Mumbai captain was already in the pavilion when umpires S Ravi and Navdeep Singh Sidhu declared an Umar Nazir delivery a no-ball. Shardul Thakur was asked to wait, then sent back. Rahane reappeared on the field.

The no-ball was not shown on the live telecast. The third umpire, Nitin Goel, said the confusion was due to lack of communication.

"When I tried reaching out to the umpire on the walkie talkie, the umpire was on a different channel. So it took some time to communicate to the on-field umpire. Rahane himself appeared on the screen, indicating that he did not hear the umpires asking him to wait. It was a clear no ball and there was no doubt about it," Goel said. "I will send the relevant footage to the BCCI."

Rahane's second life was short-lived – he was dismissed two overs later, caught by Paras Dogra off Umar Nazir.
