Bangladesh Skipper Nigar Sultana Credits Team for '110 Percent Effort'

Nigar Sultana, the Bangladesh Women's cricket team captain, has praised her teammates for their outstanding performance in the second ODI against West Indies, which helped level the three-match series.

Key Points

  • Nigar credited her teammates for giving "110 percent effort" on the field.
  • The team's 60-run win in the second ODI kept their hopes of a direct qualification for the World Cup alive.
  • Nigar's half-century (68 from 120 balls) and Nahida Akter's 3-31 from 10 overs were key factors in the win.

Nigar's Quotes

"I think the team had the faith though the runs were less considering in this kind of wicket. If you don't score 200 plus runs it is difficult for the bowlers. When we came down to play the game we were saying that we should keep our faith and if we can bowl in right areas and get the wickets in due time according to our plans it is possible to win (even without scoring 200 runs)."

"Our plan was to bowl first but after losing the toss when we got down to bat we had the target to score 200-plus runs but we could not achieve that but I tried and played against my character as I took a lot of balls to settle down and the runs were important for the team and happy that I could contribute for the team."

"I think all the credit goes to the team because the way every bowler and fielder gave their 110 percent effort it was outstanding and due to that this kind of win was possible."

"We are not thinking about the permutation and combination (of going to the World Cup) but the way we bounced back in one day following the defeat that is more important and it will help us in the series. The two points were important and getting the momentum was also important and the team got that and now in the next game we have the chance to clinch the historic series that we failed to win in overseas and if we can achieve that it will be a big milestone for the team."
