Joburg Super Kings restrict Pretoria Capitals to 138, but rain denies a potential win

The Joburg Super Kings (JSK) put up a commendable bowling performance to limit the Pretoria Capitals to 138 runs in their allotted 20 overs. However, the much-anticipated chase was washed out due to heavy rainfall, resulting in both teams sharing a point each.

JSK's Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl, making multiple changes to his XI due to injuries. The new-look bowling attack, including Moeen Ali, Hardus Viljoen, and Lutho Sipamla, proved effective as they restricted the Capitals in the PowerPlay. Donovan Ferreira, bowling the first over, dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck.

Kyle Verreynne and Will Jacks led the Capitals' charge during the PowerPlay, scoring 48 runs in the first five overs. Evan Jones broke the partnership by dismissing Jacks LBW for 15. JSK's spin duo of Moeen Ali and Imran Tahir dominated the post-PowerPlay period, leaving the Capitals at 67/4 at the halfway mark.

Moeen Ali picked up another wicket, dismissing Marques Ackerman, while Liam Livingstone and James Neesham stitched together a steady partnership. Neesham scored a quickfire 30 off 21 balls before falling to Ferreira in the 17th over. Livingstone struggled to find his rhythm and was dismissed in the next over for 22 off 30 balls.

The Capitals managed to crawl to 138/8 in their 20 overs, but the rain arrived before the run chase could begin. After more than an hour of rainfall, the match was abandoned at 8:30 PM local time.

Brief scores:

  • Pretoria Capitals 138/8 in 20 overs (Kyle Verreynne 39, James Neesham 30; Moeen Ali 2-21, Donovan Ferreira 2-17)
  • Joburg Super Kings: No Result
