Rutherford shines as Thunder prevail in injury-plagued clash
Perth Scorchers vs Sydney Thunder
Thunder needed 21 off 7 balls when Hugh Weibgen launched a delivery from Jason Behrendorff over deep midwicket for a six, bringing the equation down to 15 needed off the last over. What didn't help Scorchers was the over-rate penalty, which meant they had to bring an extra fielder inside the ring. It was something that came in handy for Rutherford, who found three boundaries off Andrew Tye in the final over, including one off the last ball with his side needing three runs to win.
David Warner (49 off 33) and Matthew Gilkes (43 off 36) laid a solid platform at the top, while Lance Morris finished with a three-wicket haul. Rutherford's assault, however, made the difference, scoring 39*.
Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 177/4 (Finn Allen 68; Chris Green 3-20) lost to Sydney Thunder 179/6 (Warner 49, Gilkes 43, Rutherford 39*; Morris 3-22) by 4 wickets.
Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Sixers
The first fixture of the day was abandoned without toss. Sixers stayed on top of the table with a point from the rained-out affair.
