South Africa Dominate First Day of Second Test Against Pakistan
Ryan Rickelton's undefeated 176 helped South Africa dominate the first day of the second Test against Pakistan at Newlands on Friday. He shared 235 with Temba Bavuma to take the home side to 316/4 at stumps.
Rickelton, opening the batting for the first time, has had 17 Test innings, but this is his first time in this position. He was promoted after Tony de Zorzi was ruled out with a thigh strain.
Rickelton's strike rate of 75.86 makes this his fastest innings when he has reached double figures. He praised the pitch, saying it was "pretty good" and that he was able to score quickly.
The partnership between Rickelton and Bavuma was a record for South Africa's fourth wicket against Pakistan and for any team's fourth wicket at Newlands. Bavuma made 106 and celebrated his century with an animated forward movement with his bat.
South Africa will look to bat big on Saturday, with the Pakistanis looking to atone for a flat performance with the ball.
