Beau Webster to replace Mitchell Marsh for SCG Test
Australia will give Beau Webster his Test debut in the New Year’s Test against India in Sydney, replacing Mitchell Marsh. Mitchell Starc is fit to continue despite rib soreness.
Marsh has struggled in the series, with no double-digit returns in his last five innings and slower bowling speeds. Webster has averaged 57.1 in first-class cricket since March 2022, with 81 wickets at 31.7.
Last year, Webster became the first player since Sir Garfield Sobers to score 900 runs and take 30 wickets in a Sheffield Shield season. He made an unbeaten half-century for Australia A against India A and took two three-wicket hauls in the second four-day game.
Pat Cummins, the Australian captain, expressed excitement for Webster, emphasizing the importance of having a squad of players to call upon.
