Manohar's belligerent ton powers Karnataka's fourth successive win
Vijay Hazare Trophy, 2024-25
Rajesh Mohanty (3 for 14) and Tapas Das (4 for 17) were the architects of Odisha's 9-wicket victory over Manipur in Jaipur. Manipur could muster only 100 in 40 overs with no batter doing better than opener Basir Rahman's 20 as the Odisha new-ball pair through their batting. Swastik Samal hit an unbeaten 50 in the chase, combining for a 80-run unbeaten stand with skipper Sandeep Pattnailk to help their side over the finish line with 30 overs and nine wickets in hand.
In another low-scoring affair in wet Jaipur, Deepak Dhapola (3 for 19) and Prashant Bhati (3 for 20) set up Uttarakhand's massive eight-wicket thumping of Goa. Dhapola claimed two in successive balls, across two overs, in a collapse of 3 for 3after Goa were put in to bat. Skipper Prabhudesai top-scored with 35 off 72 balls to take his side to 92 before they were shot down in exactly 29 overs. Uttarakhand had an easy chase then, with contributions from three of top-four as they polished off the target in 18.5 overs only.
Abhinav Manohar's blistering 45-ball century aided by Mayank Agarwal's 66* off 41 deliveries, helped Karnataka consolidate their lead at the top of the table with a 10-wicket thumping of Arunachal Pradesh. Having opted to bowl, Karnataka restricted AP to just 166 with identical 4 for 30 from V Koushik and Hardik Raj. Only one significant't partnership – worth 90 – came from the AP batters as Abhinav Singh (71) and Hardik Varma (38) prevented a freefall. But collapses on either side ensured they didn;t have enough to challenge Karnataka's batting. Mayank and Abhinav took only 14.2 overs to overhaul the set target with the latter being the aggressor or the two as he hit seven sixes and as many boundaries.
Chama Milind's impressive 5 for 13 laid the foundation for Hyderabad's four-wicket win over Puducherry. The new-ball bowlers claimed three of Puducherry's top-four to eventually restrict them to a meagre 98 inside 32 overs. Hyderabad's chase also saw a dramatic collapse of 4 for 27 before Kodimela Himateja (42*) dropped anchor and stitched a 46-run stand with Tanay Thayagrajan (22 off 18) to put them on course for an easy win in just 20 overs.
