The Konstas-Bumrah Show Captivates MCG
In his debut Test match, Sam Konstas, a 19-year-old, showed no fear against the world's best bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Konstas took on Bumrah with an audacious approach, scoring 14 runs in an over that included a scoop for four, a reverse ramp for six, and another reverse scoop for four.
Konstas' inquisition by Bumrah was a masterclass on seam bowling. Bumrah challenged Konstas outside his off-stump and delivered an in-swinging ball that the opener kept out. Konstas' ability to survive and overcome the challenging start was commendable.
Konstas' shot-making was incredible, scoring 34 runs off Bumrah alone. He played reverse ramps, cut and scythed the Indian fast bowlers, and made room to slap length deliveries through extra cover. Konstas' approach was fearless, without inhibitions, and a preview of what's to come from the new generation of Test cricketers.
Bumrah did get his own back later in the day, getting rid of Travis Head and Mitch Marsh. Bumrah's figures of 3/75 in 21 overs, with 34 runs scored in 3 overs by Konstas, summed up the dramatic Boxing Day at the MCG. The day announced the arrival of a new star while showcasing why Bumrah is still the best.
