Pakistan outplay South Africa in Newlands to secure series win
Pakistan secured a series-winning 81-run victory over South Africa in the second One-Day International at Newlands in Cape Town, thanks to a dominant performance from Shaheen Afridi.
South Africa were outplayed and folded up for 248 in the second innings, with Heinrich Klaasen's 97 going in vain. The hosts struggled to gain momentum, with the Pakistani spinners, Abrar Ahmad and Agha, troubling them throughout the innings.
Pakistan's total of 329 was built on a century stand by Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, followed by a brisk 32-ball 63 from Kamran Ghulam. The visitors lost Abdullah Shafique for a second-ball duck in the opening over, but rebuilt the innings at the back of some useful partnerships.
Rizwan's 80 was the top score for Pakistan, with Babar Azam scoring 73. Ghulam's 63 was a late assault, taking down Fortuin, Jansen and Shamsi with equal disdain. Agha Salman, Irfan Khan and Shaheen Afridi also chipped in with useful cameos in the death overs.
