Brisbane Test: Rain Plays Spoilsport on Opening Day
Australia's Openers Emerge Unscathed
Australia's openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney emerged unscathed after 13.2 overs of play on a rain-hit opening day in Brisbane.
India Wins Toss, Elects to Bowl
India won a third consecutive toss in the series and decided to bowl under overcast conditions. The visitors made two changes to the playing XI from Adelaide, with Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja replacing other players.
Early Exchanges Unremarkable
The early exchanges saw little swing or seam movement, with Khawaja comfortable in putting away deliveries that were too short or too straight. Jasprit Bumrah beat the left-hander on a couple of occasions, but only one of the first 33 balls bowled by India were projected to hit the stumps.
Rain Forces Early Lunch Break
The players were forced off the field due to a torrential downpour, and the lunch break was taken earlier than the revised timings of the first session. The elements remained unrelenting, wiping out the entire second session.
Day Called Off
The day was eventually called off at 4:15 PM local time, with play resuming at 9:50 AM local time. A minimum of 98 overs will be bowled on each of the remaining four days, which all have varying amounts of rain forecast.
