- ACB extends Trott's contract until end of 2025
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has extended head coach Jonathan Trott's contract by another 12 months. This will see him remain in charge until the end of 2025.
The decision follows Trott's fruitful two-and-a-half-year tenure, which has seen Afghanistan make giant strides.
2024 has been a memorable year for Afghanistan, reaching the T20 World Cup semifinals for the first time in their history. They also recently beat South Africa and Bangladesh in Sharjah to secure series victories in the ODI format.
Afghanistan also had a successful campaign in the 2023 ODI World Cup, securing wins over Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka and finishing in the top 8. As a result, Afghanistan will now play in the Champions Trophy, scheduled for February-March next year, for the very first time in their history.
The board also confirmed that Trott will be in charge of the team in Zimbabwe only for the ODI leg of the tour for personal reasons. Hamid Hassan and Nawroz Mangal will take charge as head coach and assistant coach for the T20Is and Tests.
