KL Rahul on Pink-Ball Test
KL Rahul will face his first pink-ball Test match in the Adelaide Test, a format where bowlers tend to rule. He expressed excitement about the challenge, stating, "I'm going in with a clean slate and I'll go there and see what really happens. And try and face up to whatever comes my way."
Rahul acknowledged the difficulties of playing with the pink ball, citing the challenge of seeing the ball and picking it up from the bowler's hand. He noted that the pink ball reacts differently to the red ball, with more seam movement and a harder ball to hit.
As India faces a pace attack proficient in these conditions, Rahul emphasized the importance of adapting to the pink ball. He stated, "If you can pick that, then you give yourself the best chance to react and be in good positions."
Rahul also discussed the challenges of fielding with the pink ball, particularly for catchers in the slip cordon. He noted that the ball seems harder to hit and feels quicker in the hand.
Opening the Batting Order
Rahul was thrown into opening the batting alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Perth Test due to injuries and absences in the top-order. He expressed confidence in his ability to handle the role, stating, "I've been told, but I've also been told not to share it with you. So you'll have to wait for Day one or maybe when the captain comes here tomorrow."
Rahul emphasized the importance of managing the first 30-40 balls of an innings, regardless of the batting position. He noted that this is crucial for setting up a successful innings and managing the pressure.
Batting Position and Mental Approach
Rahul discussed the mental challenges of switching batting positions, particularly away from home. He stated, "Mentally how to play those first 20-25 balls, what shots I can play, how early can I attack, how much do I need to be cautious."
Rahul concluded that the key to successful batting is managing the first 30-40 balls, regardless of the batting position. He emphasized the importance of adapting to the pink ball and the challenges it presents.
