Shadman 50 helps WI overcome early stumble in truncated opening day

Bangladesh 69/2 (Shadman Islam 50*, Shahadat Hossain 12*, Kemar Roach 2-20) vs West Indies

Bangladesh scored 69 runs for the loss of two wickets in 30 overs possible on Day 1 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.

Shadman Islam remained unbeaten on 50 to help the visitors reach 69 at stumps after they were 10 for 2 at one stage within seven overs.

Due to heavy rains, the outfield was wet and considered unsuitable for play for most of the day. The game started after a lengthy delay of over five hours from the scheduled start.

Kraigg Brathwaite also made history for the West Indies, surpassing Sir Garfield Sobers to play the most number of consecutive Tests for the hosts (86).

Kemar Roach was impressive with the ball for the West Indies, getting one to beat the outside edge of Mahmudul Hasan Joy off the very first ball. He then got Mahmudul out, followed by Mominul Haque for a duck.

Shadman Islam and Shahadat Hossain then dug deep and gritted out an unbeaten 59-run partnership. West Indies dropped three catches within the first 20 overs. Jayden Seales bowled three consecutive maidens and five in total, constantly asking questions to the batters.
