SMAT: Brar helps Punjab avoid Mizoram scare in Super Over thriller
Even at the start of the final over, Punjab's chase was close to securing an incredible result against the defending champions. The equation was down to Punjab needing 24 off 4 balls when Harpreet Brar turned it around. He hit a four and a six off the third and fourth delivery to put pressure on T Vanrotlinga, who then delivered a wide. Brar then smashed two sixes down the ground to drag the game into a Super Over.
Punjab posted 15/0 in the Super Over, with Ramandeep Singh hitting a six and a four off KC Cariappa. Their fast bowler Baltej Singh kept nailing the yorker length to deny Mizoram a happy ending as they were restricted to 7/1.
Hyderabad completed the chase in just 12.3 overs, with Rohit Rayudu and Tilak Varma adding an undefeated stand worth 90 runs off 54 deliveries and scoring fiery fifties each. Mayank Dagar picked a wicket and then scored a 38-ball 65, with eight fours and a six, to set up HP's three-wicket win over Jammu & Kashmir.
J&K scored 173/8 with multiple contributions through the line-up and had HP down to 29/2 in the fifth over of the chase before Dagar and opener Ankit Kalsi added a 107-run stand. The eighth-wicket pair of Ayush Jamwal and Akash Vasisht saw the chase through with three balls to spare.
Hardik Pandya was in his element, smashing five sixes and three fours on his way to an undefeated 47 off 23 balls. Opener Mitesh Patel hit 37* off 24 as Baroda completed their seven-wicket win in the 12th over.
Salman Nizar's unbeaten 99 off 49 powered Kerala to their winning total of 234/5, with Rohan Kunnummal hitting 87 off 48 balls. Shardul Thakur finished with figures of 1/69, while Mohit Awasthi picked 4 wickets but couldn't keep the runs down as the two added 140 runs for the third wicket off just 80 deliveries.
