Bangladesh Batters Struggle to Convert Starts
Former batting coach David Hemp has expressed concerns over Bangladesh's inability to convert starts into big hundreds. The team is currently on the back foot in the ongoing Test series against West Indies, with a 225-run deficit to chase in the second innings.
West Indies Declare at 450/9
West Indies declared their first innings at 450/9, thanks to contributions from Mikyle Louis (97) and Alick Athanaze (90), along with Justin Greaves' maiden Test hundred.
Bangladesh's Inability to Post a Higher Total
Bangladesh declared at 269-9, missing an opportunity to post a higher total. Mominul Haque (50), Liton Kumar Das (40), and Jaker Ali (50) all failed to make a big hundred.
Hemp's Concerns
Hemp feels that converting starts into hundreds is a part of batting that Bangladesh needs to work on. "That's a part of batting as well (converting the 50s into 100s)," he said. "Getting a start, and once you get a start convert those starts. So that's another part of batting."
Jaker Ali's Progress
Hemp is impressed with Jaker Ali's progress in the longer format. "That's a role he (Jaker Ali) certainly seems to be enjoying. He is contributing. That's all you can ask – putting performances in game."
Youth Opportunity
Hemp believes that youngsters should grab the opportunity in the absence of senior cricketers. "The experience obviously helps, but at the end of the day, the experienced players are injured and you have to provide the opportunity to someone else and you have to play with what you got."
