BCCI Introduces New Rules to Stifle Ambition of Overseas Players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new rules to curb the behavior of overseas players who exploit loopholes to their advantage. The rules aim to ensure that players are committed to their teams for a period of time.

Key Changes

  • Overseas players must register for the mega-auction and cannot directly enter the mini-auction.
  • Players who do not register for the mega-auction will be banned from participating in the subsequent mini-auction.
  • Players who are picked in the auction but make themselves unavailable before the start of the season will be banned from participating in the IPL/IPL auction for 2 seasons.
  • The auction fee for overseas players in a mini-auction will be lower than the highest retention price or the highest auction price at the big auction.

Reaction from Franchises

The new rules have been welcomed by franchises, with many congratulating the BCCI for taking a strong stance against foreign players who exploit loopholes. Ricky Ponting, a former Australian cricketer and current franchise owner, said that the rules are a great way to ensure that players are committed to their teams.

Players Affected

Several overseas players have reneged on their commitments, including Wanindu Hasaranga, Mark Wood, Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Harry Brook, and Mitchell Starc. The new rules aim to prevent such behavior in the future.
