Padikkal to Stay in Australia as Backup, No Rush Plans for Shami

India A Team to Depart for Home

The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India A team is scheduled to return home within the next 24 hours after a 20-day stay in Australia.

Devdutt Padikkal to Stay Back

The Karnataka batter will not accompany the team back home as the Indian management has decided to retain him as a backup for the senior team. This decision comes in light of injuries and unavailability of top-order batters ahead of the first Test in Perth.

Reason for Keeping Padikkal

Shubman Gill has been ruled out with a fractured thumb, and skipper Rohit Sharma is unlikely to be available due to a family commitment. KL Rahul has an injury concern, although he managed to bat during a recent match simulation.

Padikkal's Recent Performances

The 24-year-old batter registered scores of 36, 88, 26, and 1 in his four innings against Australia A team recently.

Rohit Sharma's Travel Plans Uncertain

There is no clarity regarding Rohit's travel plans, with his wife having recently delivered a baby.

No Plans to Send Shami to Australia

The BCCI has no immediate plans to send Mohammed Shami to Australia. Shami recently returned to competitive cricket after almost a year and will likely feature in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament for Bengal.
