Adelaide Strikers Snap 5-Match Losing Streak
Adelaide Strikers has ended their five-match losing streak with a 38-run victory over Hobart Hurricanes. The winning performance was thanks largely to Madeline Penna's brave 60-run counterattack to help Strikers defend a total of 140 on home soil.
Madeline Penna's Impressive Knock
Penna joined forces with Bridget Patterson for a 42-run partnership, stabilizing the Strikers' innings which had stuttered at 45/4 by the end of the eighth over. Although the Strikers lost several top-order batters, Penna kept going strong, achieving a 36-ball half-century by the end of the 18th over.
Penna's big shots included two fours and a six off a no-ball in the seventh over bowled by Heather Graham. Despite facing a couple of setbacks, Penna continued her onslaught until the last ball, when she was run out as Strikers managed to compile 140 for 7.
Hobart Hurricanes Collapse Under Pressure
Hobart Hurricanes' attempts to chase the target fell apart under the pressure exerted by the Strikers' clinical bowling performance. Led by skipper Tahlia McGrath's outstanding 4-13 performance, the bowlers took turns to dismantle the Hurricanes' batting order one by one.
Elyse Villani's 44 was a brief respite in an otherwise dismal performance by the Hurricanes. The innings lasted 15.2 overs, ultimately ending at 102 all out.
