Kohli's Hard Work in the Nets Pays Off in Match Simulation Session
Virat Kohli's decision to spend extra time in the nets at the WACA paid off as he returned to the middle in good rhythm, showing signs of improvement in his batting.
After a 15-20 minute stint in the morning, Kohli walked out of the nets and made his way back to the middle, still wearing his training top, the lilac-lavender shirt the Indian team is sporting.
He faced resistance from Mukesh Kumar, who bowled precisely at the hard Aussie length, and was forced to play and miss a few times before attempting to shoulder arms to a ball that kissed the bottom of his bat.
However, Kohli did manage to produce a couple of exquisite drives, one through cover which was trademark Kohli, and a perfectly-timed pull shot where he swivelled and got into a great position.
He also flashed at a few wide deliveries, including a boundary past gully, and was snaffled at second slip after leaving his bat hanging to a ball on around a virtual fifth stump from Mukesh.
Despite the dismissal, Kohli looked in better rhythm in his second stint, showing better judgement of length and line. His hands stayed closer to his body, and the bat made much better contact with the ball.
Kohli's return to form was in keeping with the rest of the team's efforts, with several players taking multiple stints in the middle to get accustomed to the WACA surface.
Jaiswal stood out for his handling of the short ball, while Gill had a decent outing in the afternoon session after a scratchy start. Bumrah, on the other hand, was busy passing on advice and chatting with his teammates and coaches.
The Indian team's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and his coaching staff were also keeping a close eye on the main batting group, spending the day watching their players and engaging in some light-hearted games of bocce.
Overall, Kohli's hard work in the nets has paid off, and he looks to be getting back into his rhythm before the start of the Test series.
