IPL Auction Update

The BCCI has informed the franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that there will be two sets of marquee players in the upcoming player auction. The auction will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on November 24 and 25.

Marquee Players

Two lists of 8-9 marquee players each will be available in the auction. The expected players in the Elite grade include:

  • Rishabh Pant
  • KL Rahul
  • Shreyas Iyer
  • Mohammed Siraj
  • Mohammed Shami
  • Arshdeep Singh
  • R Ashwin
  • Mitchell Starc
  • Jos Buttler

Auction Details

  • Base price of each marquee player: INR 2 crore
  • Total available purse: INR 641.5 crore
  • Franchises have already spent INR 558.5 crore on recent retentions
  • Estimated spending in the first two sets: 30-50% of the available purse

Franchise Perspective

  • Punjab Kings have the largest bank deposit of INR 110.5 crore and are expected to acquire the best players
  • Each franchise will likely acquire at least two big names, costing INR 20-25 crore on average

Auction Process

  • The exact order of bidding and marquee list will be released by the BCCI in the next few days
  • The auction will be held over two days, with the first two sets of players being bid on
  • Franchises have until November 12 to respond with a list of players from the register that they want included in the final list
