Wriddhiman Saha Announces Retirement After 2024-25 Ranji Season

Veteran wicket-keeper batter Wriddhiman Saha has made it clear that the upcoming 2024-25 Ranji season will be his last. He spoke about his original plan to retire after the last season but was persuaded by two people, including former captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife, to continue.

Decision to Retire

Saha clarified that he was not initially planning to play in the upcoming season due to his physical condition and injuries. He decided to focus on one format, suggesting that he will face challenges playing for the full season.

End of 17-Year IPL Association

Saha also confirmed that he won't be participating in the upcoming IPL mega auction, effectively ending a 17-year association with the league that began in 2008.

Reflecting on International Career

The Indian cricketer, who played 40 Tests and represented the country for 17 years, expressed happiness about being a team man throughout his international career. He pointed out that focusing on individual achievements could have led to higher stats, but he prioritized the team.

Most Memorable Moments

Saha mentioned his desire for a memorable moment in his domestic career, which would be winning the finals with Bengal. He achieved success in the T20 and one-day formats but hopes to leave a lasting impression before retiring.

Future Plans

While Saha hasn't considered life beyond cricket, he mentioned being willing to share his knowledge and experience through coaching or other roles within the sport, as long as it aligns with his passion for cricket.
