Tim Southee: Reflecting on New Zealand's Historic Victory in India

The Magnitude of the Achievement

"Yeah, I think anytime you come to this part of the world, and I've been a few times, it's a very tough place to come. So to reflect on and having the extra couple of days to be able to reflect on the last couple of weeks has been pretty special."

Celebrating a Career Highlight

"It's been a nice few days. We sat around the changing room for a while after the game and having the extra couple of days off allowed us to, I guess, indulge in a couple of extra drinks the other night."

Prior International Experience in India

"I guess one of the first things that comes to mind is – tough. It is tough. For us, coming from New Zealand, the conditions are so foreign. I think every time you come here, you're playing against a superstar outfit."

Perspective on the Tour

"It's nice to be that side that's broken that run. I guess it shows to other teams around the world that it is possible to beat India in India."

Leadership Group Experience

"Yeah, I think the group's never lost any faith in the direction we're trying to go. The players are a tight-knit group and we've been looking forward to this series for a long time."

Message for First-Time Test Players in India

"I think it's just about enjoying this part of the world. It's a special place to come and play cricket. The fans, just the whole experience of playing cricket here in India is something to enjoy."

Key Takeaways from the Series

"I guess we knew that Pune was going to be different again. Obviously, the weather wasn't going to play a part. And the wicket we knew was going to take a bit of a turn."

Senior Member's Reflection

"I guess just to be able to come here…and like I said, there's been a lot of great teams from New Zealand to come here and not be able to beat India annd there have been a lot of great teams from around the world that have come here and not beaten India….So I guess for us, for a little country but a proud country to be able to come here and win, it's been amazing!"

Putting the Series Win in Context

"Where would that stand for me as well as for the team? I think you look back and it's hard to go past the World Test Championship and winning the World Test Championship. But this is right up there, if not equal to that. It's certainly been a highlight of my career so far."
